The very name suggests that Vijayawada "The City of Victory".
BJP is the first national party to pledge its support to the formation of a separate Telangana state. As a part of his country-wide Vijay Sankalp tour, Shri L K Advani addressed a mammoth rally in Hyderabad on 13 November. In the rally Advaniji promised the creation of Telangana within 100 days if voted to power.
Speech
Friends, I am in Hyderabad. I am in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh. Therefore, I must talk about the Congress party’s biggest betrayal, which concerns the people of Telangana. The Congress party had promised to the people of Telangana at the time of the last Parliamentary and Assembly elections in 2004 that their government will form a separate Telangana state. Many of you believed in the promise and voted for the Congress party, helping it to come to power both in New Delhi and in Hyderabad. A regional party in Telangana, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti, became an ally of the Congress. It even joined the UPA Government. Now, five years have passed. Where is Telangana? TRS had to quit the UPA. The Congress had power both at the Centre and in the state. If it wanted, it could have easily formed the new state of Telangana. The BJP would have wholeheartedly supported the bill in Parliament. Contrast this to the track record of the NDA Government. The people of Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh would always remember that it was the NDA Government that fulfilled its promise to them by carving out these three separate states.
An overwhelming majority of the people of Telangana want a separate state to be carved out of Andhra Pradesh. BJP was the first political party to adopt a specific resolution, way back in 1996, in support of their demand.
Advaniji released the Telugu edition of his autobiography My Country My Life in Hyderabad on the 23rd of October 2008.
