L.K. Advani honoured with NDTV Lifetime Achievement Award for 2008

Shri L.K. Advani, prime ministerial candidate of the BJP and the National Democratic Alliance, has been honoured by NDTV, the reputed television channel, with the Lifetime Achievement Award for 2008.

The award was given by Dr. Prannoy Roy, founder and chairman of NDTV, at an impressive ceremony in New Delhi yesterday.

The jury had the following members: (1) Dr. Prannoy Roy, Chairman, NDTV (2) Ms. Anu Aga, Exec. Chairperson, Thermax Group (3) Mr. Fali S. Nariman, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court (4) Mr. William Dalryple, Historian & Writer (5) Mr. Harsha Bhogle, Cricket Commentator (6) Mr. Rahul Bajaj, Businessman (7) Mr. Shashi Throor, Chairman, Afras Ventures

The citation accompanying the award said:

"He (L.K. Advani) is a grassroot leader and is credited with having made the BJP a formidable force in Indian politics, through clarity of vision, precise statements and an astute sense of timing. Always in favour of anti-terrorism laws, he abolished Press Censorship and repealed anti-press legislation during his tenure in 1977-1979 as the I&B Minister. BJP has named him as a Prime Ministerial candidate for the party and the National Democratic Alliance for the 2009 general elections."
